The Association of Binational Centers in Latin America (ABLA) is an organization that unites the language and cultural centers around Latin America that are known as Binational Centers (BNC). These centers are recognized by the US State Department as language and cultural extensions of the US Embassies in the Western Hemisphere, and they are well-known in their countries as the best, most responsible language institutes.

ABLA (Association of Binational Centers of Latin America) CONVENTION – CALI, COLOMBIA  July 26-31, 2010

The ABLA (Association of Binational Centers of Latin America) biennial convention was held in Cali, Colombia on July 26-31, 2010.  It was organized by the Centro Colombo Americano de Cali and was attended by over 300 BNC (Binational Centers) representatives from Mexico to Argentina and by US officials from the US State Department as well.  Participants accomplished an intensive agenda dealing with topics such as the future of English Language and the teaching of English at the BNCs; academic standards; social responsibility and how some BNCs rise to the challenge; partnership between the BNCs, the US State Department and the US Embassies; exchanges and educational advising and alliances with the local government educational institutions.  Within the framework of the ABLA convention, there were also parallel segments including a Seminar for Librarians and a Conference for English Language teachers which gathered active and numerous audiences who attended presentations and workshops headed by prestigious professionals in these fields.

Representatives from the Nicaraguan Binational Center in Managua City as well as the American Corner Coordinator and the Cultural Affair Officer of Embassy attended this convention, where they shared best practices and networking with other ABLA member.
