Centro Cultural Nicaragüense Norteamericano, founded in 1942 under the name of Instituto Americano de Inglés, is a non for profit organization whose purpose is to promote understanding and cultural interchange between Nicaragua and the United States through the teaching of both languages, English and Spanish, as well as the implemetation of cultural events. Because of the earthquake that hit Managua in 1972, CCNN had to close operations for about 20 years. It was not until 1993 that CCNN opened its doors again with the new name Centro Cultural Nicaragüense Norteamericano. In an attempt to be closer to more nicaraguans, CCNN has set up new offices in Reparto Los Robles, and in the city of Estelí. The library Emily Dickinson is an important part of the services that CCNN offers the community. It contains about 3000 books in English in areas such as literature, art, political science, EFL/ESL teaching among others and internet. |
